God’s Design

“Give unto the Lord the glory due to His name; worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness” (Psalm 29:2 NKJV)

While teaching the middle elementary Sunday School class this week, I was reminded that God created and designed us to worship him. The students learned the differences between how the Israelites worshiped God from afar in the tabernacle verses how we now have bold access to worship God today thanks to Jesus’ atonement for our sins.

Keep this idea in mind as we begin to explore the 3 Circles method for turning everyday conversations into gospel conversations. The first portion of the tool that we will explore is the “God’s Design” circle.

In Genesis, God reveals how he created the heavens and earth and everything that dwells within them. He saw that it was good. In Genesis 1:26 God said “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” He formed man from the dust of the earth and breathed life into him. He made a suitable helper, woman, from the rib of man.

"So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them" (Genesis 1:27)
The chorus of the song “Creator” by Phil Wickham states: Holy, You are holy. Earth and Heaven sing forever. Holy, You are holy. All creation praise Creator. This expression of worship and praise to a holy God and creator by all of His creation is depicted in these lyrics.

It becomes clear throughout Gensis Chapters 1 and 2 that God created humans in his own image out of love and seeks a direct relationship and connection with humanity. He equipped Adam and Eve to work in the Garden of Eden and gave them dominion over all living creatures. He blessed them and commanded them to be fruitful and multiply. Adam and Eve walked in the garden in the presence of God and in direct communication with their Creator.

You might be asking; how does this apply to us? Well God has a design for each one of us because we are created in his image. He cares about every aspect of our lives. He created us for relationship with him. When we follow God’s will and obey his commands, we can receive his blessings. Consequently, when we depart from God’s will and sin, we end up in a state of brokenness.

Stay tuned for the next session as we delve into the ramifications of sin and how it transitions into our next circle “Brokenness.”
