As we look around our world, in our nation, and even in our very own communities; it is evident that the presence of turmoil, destruction, and brokenness exists.
If you recall a few weeks ago, we discussed the “God’s Design” circle. When Adam and Eve strayed from God’s Design and disobeyed his commands, sin entered the world. As a result, creation and all that dwells within it will experience brokenness, loss and ultimately death.
Jimmy Scroggins, pastor and creator of the 3 Circles, explains how we all have experienced the effects and feelings of brokenness. Therefore, we will try to fix, fill or escape this brokenness in some way or another. Scroggin goes on to explain that while being in a place of brokenness may feel like a terrible thing, it is actually a good thing because it points our attention to the need for a heart change and ultimately — a Savior.
"I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
God does not promise that we won’t go through trials, tribulations, and sufferings. Be he does promise that he will never leave or forsake us. These moments and sometimes seasons of difficulties are opportunities to seek God — to grow in our understanding of who God is, his character and holy authority, and ultimately his love. God’s unfailing, agape love promises victory over sin. God does not leave us in our brokenness, he offers hope through His son Jesus Christ.
As we enter the advent season, let us reflect on God’s love and grace in sending his Son, Emmanuel – God with Us, to earth to make reconciliation for our sin.
